Picture
A CRANIAL ORTHOSIS
Fits to the shape of the head and contains areas of space over the flattened regions.

The spaces allow natural growth of the head in these regions over a period of several weeks or months, allowing the structures to correct itself. There are no areas of direct pressure applied therefore ensuring a safe and painless treatment.

We will assess, scan, measure and monitor the growth of your baby’s head.
WHEN DOES MY BABY NEED AN ASSESSMENT?
HEAD-SHAPE DEFORMITIES
WITH A MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH

FAQ’S ABOUT CRANIAL REMOULDING ORTHOSIS

CLINICAL GAIT ANALYSIS

OUR CORNERSTONE
consulting offerings, this analysis service can  include: Biomechanical evaluations, Leg Length discrepancy evaluations & Footwear Modifications, Orthotic Review & Treatment Plan Development.  During the consultation we perform a thorough examination, including range of movement, muscle strength, hypermobility and spasticity.   We will also want to understand what your goals and expectations are from treatment. During consultations we will set out a plan for treatment and discuss what we think is achievable with our orthotics and your therapy programme.
We are happy to discuss any of these with your referring therapist to ensure all members of your team are working towards the same goal. Once we have a clear treatment programme and orthotic prescription we will give you a full and exact quote for the entire treatment.

Common Conditions

WE DESIGN CUSTOM ORTHOTIC SOLUTIONS
with excellent knowledge and expertise in treating many neurological and orthopaedic conditions. We work with individuals and their families to identify an individual’s difficulties and formulate a treatment plan to allow people to achieve their full potential.

Spina Bifida

A COMMON DISORDER
involving the incomplete development of the spinal cord and/or the protective covering of a fetus’ spine during early stages of pregnancy.

Cerebral Palsy

COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS “CP”
it can be described as a disorder of movement, muscle tone or posture.  Often characterised by loss or impairment of motor function, movement, balance and ability to walk or stand.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

A DISEASE THAT CAUSES INFLAMMATION
of the nerves in the brain and spinal cord. Nerves are covered with myelin which allows messages to travel along the nerves at great speed. When someone has MS it causes their immune system to break down or damage the myelin which disrupts the messages and impacts on how the body functions.

Guillain-Barre Syndrome

A RARE BUT SERIOUS AUTOIMMUNE
disorder where the immune system attacks healthy nerve cells in your peripheral nervous system. Can Lead to Weakness, numbness, tingling and eventually paralysis.

Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease (CMT)

OFTEN MARKED BY PROGRESSIVE
muscular atrophy, beginning with the intrinsic muscles of the foot. Clinical presentation depends to some extent on how advanced the disease is. Lower-leg atrophy is common, and because some muscles weaken more rapidly than others, the result is often imbalanced.

Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR)

AN OPERATION ON THE NERVES
of the spinal cord to reduce spasticity (Muscle Stiffness) of the leg in children with Cerebral Palsy. Often Orthotics are prescribed postoperatively to maximise the outcomes of the surgery.

Toe Walking

IT’S NORMAL FOR TODDLERS
to walk on their toes as their gait develops, but when this pattern persists in children older than two years, it’s a cause for concern. Toe walking could be idiopathic or a precursor of a neurological or developmental condition.

Poliomyelitis (Post Polio Syndrome)

A CONDITION THAT AFFECTS POLIO SURVIVORS
survivors years after recovery from an initial acute attack of the poliomyelitis virus. Post-polio syndrome is mainly characterised by new weakening in muscles that were previously affected by the polio infection and in muscles that seemingly were unaffected.

Flat Feet (Pez Planus)

FLATFOOT DEFORMITY OR PES PLANUS
is one of the most common foot pathology in patients of all ages. The deformity may be associated with discomfort and pain, instability, serious foot, ankle, knee, and lower back pains and misalignments.

Custom orthotic and footwear

THE DESIGN AND PURPOSE OF AN ORTHOSIS
is different according to each person’s unique needs and goals, which often includes supporting or correcting abnormal limb positioning, preventing deformity, providing a stable base when sitting and standing, and facilitating a safer and more efficient walking pattern.

Fitting

FUNCTIONAL ORTHOTICS
are designed to control abnormal motion. As no two patients are the same, orthotics are custom fitted to ensure the best compatibility, relief & ease of movement.  The fitting process can take up to one or two hours, depending on the case complexity.  Sometimes, more than one fitting is required for an orthosis to be fully fine tuned and finished.

Orthotic review

WE WANT YOU TO BE HAPPY
with the orthosis. We want you to use it daily and feel like it is performing as we had intended.  Therefore, we offer a free 3 month review service for adult patients. This means that if you have any problems that are not normal wear and tear, we will review them and correct the orthosis accordingly.
